Did you know that even mild dehydration can impair mood, memory and brain performance?

Many studies, ranging from children to the elderly, have shown that mild dehydration can impair mood, memory and brain performance.

Lemme break down dehydration for you – even though I’m sure you have a fair idea –

Dehydration is a condition that can occur when the loss of body fluids, mostly water, exceeds the amount that is taken in. With dehydration, more water is moving out of individual cells and then out of the body than the amount of water that is taken in through drinking. Medically, dehydration usually means a person has lost enough fluid so that the body begins to lose its ability to function normally and then begins to produce symptoms related to the fluid loss.

Sounds serious when you put it that way, doesn’t it? Even mild dehydration can impair your ability to make clear and decisive decisions. I’m telling you this because (at a guess) 80% of people I know or that are my clients present as dehydrated.

But I’m not thirsty? Thirst isn’t always an accurate representation of hydration/ the need to hydrate. Your urine however (such a sexy topic!) is a great measure. See the table below.

This chart can help you determine if you’re hydrated. It starts with normal, well-hydrated colors. But as you move down the list, dehydration becomes more severe; below the mid line indicates dehydration.
